Bye-bye Autumn.......

One of the best things about living in Canberra is that you get four distinct seasons.  We also get pretty awesome Autumns. Lots of beautiful sunny days and the glorious colours of all the deciduous trees.  Our garden is full of all manner of delightfully coloured deciduous trees. We usually get a pretty good display of colour over the Autum period. The downside is all the leaves you have to pick up!

The last week has seen the arrival of some cold, wet and decidedly Wintery weather, and all the leaves are now gone. So here is a look at some of the Autumn goodness from the previous couple of months.

The last few weeks have seen spectacular Autumn colours in our garden.  We have a heap of deciduous trees planted throughout the garden. Firstly because they are pretty, secondly because they grow well in our climate, and thirdly because they work well on the North side of our house where they shade in summer and let light through in Winter.

I have been a little slack with taking photos of them this year, but they have put on a good display so here is a collection from the last couple of weeks........  I haven't enhanced the colours on these photos at all. This is what the colour actually looks like, no photography trickery here!

There are still a reasonable number of leaves on the trees and the colours are still lovely. Another week or two and they will all be gone and I'll have to get around to cleaning up the big piles of wet leaves on the ground...... the definite downside to lots of decidious trees!

Favourite Photo Friday - 17/5/13

This weeks photo is from our garden. A picture of the Chinese Pistachio tree, all coloured up and ready to drop it's leaves. I took this photo just after some rain!

There have been spectacular Autumn colours in our garden over the last couple of weeks so I have some photos to post soon.  Of course we have just had 3 days or horrendous weather, freezing temps, rain and icy winds, and most of the leaves have now dropped.  Prior to the last few days we have had lovely temps in the high teens/low 20s and sunny days!  Oh how things change.....

At least our trees have been impressive this year. They have liked the warmer Autumn and had held their leaves nicely. Now it feels like Winter is on the way........
